Dr. Jonathan Gayles
It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Jonathan Gayles as Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness, effective March 1, 2016.
Dr. Gayles is an accomplished faculty member in African-American Studies and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Learning in the College of Arts & Sciences. In his capacity as Associate Dean, he has led a series of projects to use data and analytics to improve learning outcomes in core-level courses and to increase the effectiveness of the university’s academic early-alert systems. His research has focused on education and its interplay with race, immigration, standardized testing, and academic resilience. He has mentored students participating in the Robert E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Research Program and the Georgia State University Undergraduate Research Conference, with many of those students winning awards in national competitions as well. He received the Georgia State University Torch of Peace Award for his efforts in post Hurricane Katrina relief.
President Becker and I look forward to working with Dr. Gayles in this new capacity to ensure availability of data and assessments that inform university decision-making and facilitate the fulfillment of requirements for reaffirmation of accreditation as a newly consolidated institution.
