Dr. Rodney Lyn
Provost Wendy Hensel sent the following message to the Georgia State University campus community on May 20, 2021:
Dear community,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Rodney Lyn as full Dean of the School of Public Health, effective June 1.
Dr. Lyn serves as Professor in the school’s Department of Health Policy and Behavioral Sciences and has held several leadership positions prior to becoming Interim Dean in 2019. He has served as Senior Associate Dean for Academic and Strategic Initiatives, Interim Division Director, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Deputy Director of the Center of Excellence on Health Disparities.
Dr. Lyn has led or contributed to funded research grants totaling more than $16 million to advance knowledge in the areas of childhood obesity prevention, school and community health, and the reduction of health disparities. He currently co-directs the Georgia State University Prevention Research Center in Clarkston, which works in partnership with community leaders and organizations to identify pressing community health needs and to intervene through applied research. The Center is supported by funding from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. He is an active member of the American Public Health Association and the International Society for Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity.
The pandemic has vividly demonstrated the importance of public health to our society, including research, scholarship, and education of the next generation of professionals. Dr. Lyn has served our institution during this critical and challenging time as a key member of Georgia State’s COVID-19 Task Force and as a member of the Task Force for Racial Equality, in addition to leading the School of Public Health as interim dean.
I am confident that under Dr. Lyn’s leadership, the school will emerge as a national leader and innovator. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Lyn on his new appointment.
Wendy Hensel, J.D.
Sincerely,
Wendy Hensel, J.D.
