Students Receive Global Scholars Distinction from Georgia State
More than 100 students at Georgia State University earned the Global Scholar Distinction during the summer of 2024, recognizing their development of global competence: the skills, knowledge and awareness that enhance the ability to succeed in a global environment. The Global Scholar Distinction is open to all bachelor’s degree-seeking majors in all colleges, in addition to associate’s degree-seeking students at Perimeter College.
Students who take five or more designated courses across the university and earn a grade of “B” or better and keep an institutional grade-point average of 3.0 or higher at the time of graduation are recognized as Global Scholars.
Students earning the Global Scholar Distinction receive an official notice from Georgia State, a digital badge, and a cord at graduation. Recipients are encouraged to include this and other university distinctions on resumes, professional portfolios and other methods of documenting academic accomplishments.
The Atlanta Global Studies Center, a U.S. Department of Education-supported venture with Georgia State University and the Georgia Institute of Technology, coordinates the program in collaboration with Georgia State’s Office of International Initiatives, a unit of the Office of the Provost.
One of the priorities of the Atlanta Global Studies Center, supported through a four-year Title VI grant, is to promote and support global education across partner universities, and to increase achievement of the Global Scholar Distinction by 10 percent.
