Newly-emeritus Professor Robert Howard of the Department of Political Science at the Georgia State University College of Arts & Sciences was recently honored by the Southern Political Science Association, Inc. for his accomplishments.

In recognition of his work and his service to the discipline and organization, the association’s Best Conference Paper Award was renamed in his honor. Dr. Howard served as the organization’s executive director from 2013 to 2024, overseeing significant growth and advances, while leading development of policies, procedures and programs that represent best practices for not-for-profit associations.

In his scholarship, Dr. Howard has written extensively in the fields of law and courts, judicial politics, public policy, and Georgia politics. He was a former editor of the Justice System Journal and the former editor of the Routledge book series, Law, Courts and Politics.
