Georgia State Offers New Online Tutoring Platform for All Core Undergraduate Classes

Georgia State University this fall is now offering tutoring in all core classes through the online tutoring platform, Knack. Knack was successfully piloted in select classes last year and is being expanded to cover more of the undergraduate curriculum. It is available to students enrolled on all campuses and online.

Knack offers peer tutoring by verified high-achieving students from Georgia State University who previously completed the same course that they are tutoring with an A grade. There is no cost to GSU students. The platform is available 24 hours a day.

Perimeter College to Celebrate Six-Decade Commitment to Excellence

Perimeter College at Georgia State University, this month, will mark its 60-year anniversary as a two-year, access-mission college. Faculty, staff and students have planned a festive lineup of events scheduled for Sept. 17-27.

Perimeter opened its doors in 1964 as DeKalb College, becoming the first public two-year college founded and run by a local Board of Education — DeKalb County.

In 2016, Perimeter consolidated with Georgia State University, making it one of the largest universities in the nation while more than doubling graduation rates at the college.

2024 Faculty International Research Engagement Program Awardees Announced; New FIRE Speaker Series Launched

The Office of International Initiatives (OII), a unit of the Provost’s Office, has announced the 19 awardees of the 2024 Faculty International Research Engagement (FIRE) mini-grant. The goal of FIRE mini-grant funding is to provide seed funding for internationally engaged faculty research.

In this year’s competition, OII particularly encouraged faculty working in the social sciences and the humanities to apply; OII also received and was able to support excellent proposals from other disciplines.

Additionally, OII has launched the new FIRE Speaker Series, highlighting Georgia State faculty working in an international capacity, with the first lecture planned for Sept. 19. Click on the posting link to learn more.

Georgia State Faculty Earn Recognition and Support for Signature Experiences and Excellence in Teaching and Learning

The Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning & Online Education (CETLOE) has awarded faculty for outstanding teaching in signature experience courses, and awarded grants and mini-grants to continue the development of innovative and impactful teaching practices.

Signature experiences allow students to apply class content to a real-world sustained experience that they do not typically encounter in the standard classroom. Students create a final project or presentation reflecting on their experiences and the learning they have achieved.

Mini-grants were also given to support faculty in their efforts to expand on current projects or support new ones in five key areas of importance. Click the story link to learn more.

Experiential, Project-based and Interdisciplinary Curriculum (EPIC) Program Awarded by University System of Georgia for High-Impact Teaching Practices

The University System of Georgia (USG) has awarded its inaugural Regents’ Award for Excellence in High-Impact Practices and Experiential Learning to Georgia State University’s Experiential, Project-based and Interdisciplinary Curriculum (EPIC) Program.

The Regents’ Awards represent the system’s highest recognition for excellence in teaching and advising among the state’s 26 public colleges and universities governed by the USG.

EPIC was launched in fall 2019 to provide GSU students with a curriculum to help them become adaptable problem-solvers. The program offers opportunities to learn by doing in long-term projects and seeks to develop a more meaningful general education experience by showing students how their courses connect to one another.
