Position Summary
Georgia State University seeks an innovative and entrepreneurial leader, visionary thinker, and strong communicator as the next dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. The dean will strategically position the college for the future and will have the creativity, talent, and energy to build on its legacy of academic excellence, and commitment to interdisciplinary research and teaching.
The college plays a central role at the institution, both through its primary role in the university’s general education curriculum and in its significant contributions to Georgia State’s strategic goals in the areas of research and creative activity, graduate education, student career preparation, and civic engagement. The dean will continue growing a culture of collaboration across the university and will be a strong advocate for the continued importance of the liberal arts. Along with the college community, the new dean will envision a bold future for Arts & Sciences. To accomplish these ambitious goals, the dean must strengthen existing revenue streams, encourage curricular innovation and collaboration, increase student enrollment, and prioritize student success.
The dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the college, responsible to the provost for oversight and quality of all the college’s academic and research programs. The dean is responsible for all aspects of administering the college, including strategic planning, hiring, curriculum development, programming, advisement, international initiatives, community and industry partnerships, fundraising, facilities, and budget planning. The dean manages college resources, including personnel and financial, to achieve notable institutional and student success goals.
The dean is a member of the university-level Deans Council and Administrative Council, serves as a liaison between the college’s programs and the university, and works collaboratively with other deans and administrators across the institution.
For all these reasons, the new dean of the College of Arts & Sciences will play a critical role in the continued success and advancement of Georgia State University. The university and the college are eager to meet candidates who are ready to share their vision and preparedness for this vital role.
