Georgia State Faculty Earn Recognition and Support for Signature Experiences and Excellence in Teaching and Learning

The Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning & Online Education (CETLOE) has awarded faculty for outstanding teaching in signature experience courses, and awarded grants and mini-grants to continue the development of innovative and impactful teaching practices.

Signature experiences allow students to apply class content to a real-world sustained experience that they do not typically encounter in the standard classroom. Students create a final project or presentation reflecting on their experiences and the learning they have achieved.

Mini-grants were also given to support faculty in their efforts to expand on current projects or support new ones in five key areas of importance. Click the story link to learn more.

2024 Faculty Awards Announced at Georgia State

The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce this year’s winners of the university’s faculty awards, recognizing faculty achievement and excellence.

Winners will be honored during the 2024 Celebrating Faculty Excellence event in September.

Regents’ Professorships and Distinguished University Professorships will be announced separately at a later date.

College of the Arts Dean Wade Weast Named American Council on Education Fellow

American Council on Education (ACE) has announced that Georgia State University College of the Arts Dean Wade Weast has been named an ACE Fellow for academic year 2023-24. Following nomination by the senior administration of their institutions and a rigorous application process, 36 Fellows were selected this year.

Since its inception in 1965, the ACE Fellows Program has strengthened institutions in American higher education by identifying and preparing over 2,500 faculty, staff and administrators for senior positions in college and university leadership through its distinctive and intensive cohort-based mentorship model.

Of the Fellows who have participated to date – including Provost Parsons-Pollard, a past ACE Fellow herself – more than 80 percent have gone on, after their fellowship, to serve as chief executive officers, chief academic officers, other cabinet-level positions and deans.

Georgia State Neuroscientist Geert de Vries Earns Lifetime Distinction as AAAS Fellow

Georgia State Neuroscientist Geert de Vries Earns Lifetime Distinction as AAAS Fellow

Geert de Vries, Regents’ Professor in Georgia State University’s Department of Biology and Neuroscience Institute, has been named an AAAS Fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

De Vries received the honor for his transformative contributions to the field of behavioral neuroendocrinology and the origins and functions of sex differences in brain[s] and behavior.

Since its conception in 1874, the lifetime distinction of AAAS Fellow has remained one of the most prestigious honors in the scientific community. Members of the AAAS Council elect scientists for the rank of fellow for their distinguished achievements in research and contributions to their field of study. De Vries is one of 506 scientists, and the only one from Georgia State, elected to the rank this year.

Georgia State marked faculty excellence through Celebrating Faculty Excellence 2022 on Sept. 29 at Center Parc Stadium, honoring winners of faculty awards, appointments and reappointments to prestigious professorships, and those earned promotion and/or tenure.

Additionally, student, staff, departmental and faculty winners of the university’s Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) Awards were recognized.
