Faculty Spotlight: Lowell Sanders

Dr. Lowell Sanders is a clinical associate professor of health informatics in the Byrdine F. Lewis College of Nursing & Health Professions. A pharmacist by training, he is an educator with over 14 years of experience in higher education that includes traditional classroom instruction, facilitating online courses, and experiential education.

Faculty Spotlight: Deepa Muralidhar

Faculty Spotlight: Deepa Muralidhar

After nearly two decades of experience in computer science research and education, Deepa Muralidhar is now an instructor and Ph.D. candidate at Georgia State University.

Instructor Muralidhar’s career began at Madurai Kamaraj University in Tamil Nadu, India where she earned her undergraduate degree in computer engineering. She then moved to the U.S. where she received a master’s degree in computer science (CS) at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Ga. After teaching CS in Georgia high schools for over 17 years, she took on a computer science lecturer role at Kennesaw State University (KSU).

Instructor Muralidhar’s transition to Georgia State was guided by her two mentors: Dr. Ashwin Ashok, her Ph.D. advisor, and Dr. Lisa Armistead, Dean of the Graduate School. She cited Dr. Ashok as the reason she started her Ph.D. at GSU. Learn more by clicking the story link.

Faculty Spotlight: Fernando Rochaix, Fine Arts at Perimeter College

Fernando Rochaix’s academic journey is a blend of art, technology and a commitment to his community. He utilizes an interdisciplinary curriculum to foster student growth and create public spaces that celebrate the many cultures that comprise metro Atlanta.

An associate professor of fine arts at Georgia State University’s Perimeter College, he blends research and teaching with his desire to blend theory and practice, helping to give artistic voice to those who are historically underrepresented.

One of his most recent projects involved the design and completion of a crosswalk mural in Clarkston, with the city tasking Perimeter’s Fine Arts Department to reflect the vibrant community of more than 50 nationalities.
