Blueprint to 2033: Our Place, Our Time – University Senate Approves New Strategic Plan

The Georgia State University Senate approved a new strategic plan April 5, establishing a 10-year blueprint for the institution.

The new strategic plan builds upon the previous plan, which helped transform Georgia State into the national model of an urban research university. Titled “Blueprint to 2033: Our Place, Our Time,” the new plan builds upon the four major pillars identified by President M. Brian Blake as the most impactful aspects of the university — present and future.

Those pillars are Identity, Placemaking and Belonging; Innovating Research Scholarship and Creative Activity; Student Success 2.0; and Beyond College to Career.

Nancy Kropf Named Senior Vice President for Strategic Initiatives Effective Feb. 1, 2022

President M. Brian Blake today (Dec. 1, 2021) announced the appointment of Dr. Nancy Kropf, Ph.D., current dean of Perimeter College, as Senior Vice President for Strategic Initiatives effective Feb. 1, 2022.

In this role, Dr. Kropf will work closely with incoming Interim Provost Nicolle Parsons-Pollard (who begins in this role effective Jan. 1, 2022) and President Blake to advance the university as strategic planning begins for another impactful decade.

Succeeding Dr. Kropf as Perimeter’s interim dean will be Dr. Cynthia Lester, the college’s current Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Perimeter College.

Urban Studies Institute Receives Grant To Study Mobility Challenges, Improve Health Outcomes

Georgia State University’s Urban Studies Institute has been awarded a two-year, $250,000 grant under Systems for Action, a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, to study the mobility challenges limiting low-income, chronically ill patients in accessing healthcare, healthy food and other activities that enhance physical and mental well-being.

The Urban Studies Institute is part of the university’s efforts under its 2011-16-21 strategic plan, which calls for the university to address the complex challenges of cities in the 21st century.

The 18-month study will test the effects of several mobility support options on the health behaviors, use of health care and health outcomes for low-income individuals with Type 2 diabetes in metro Atlanta.

New Georgia State University Graduate School to Expand, Strengthen, Graduate and Professional Programs

Georgia State University will establish a new Graduate School as part of the university’s strategic efforts to expand and strengthen graduate and professional programs at the institution.

The Graduate School will build upon programs in the Office of Graduate Programs in admissions, marketing and professional development activities for the university’s graduate students. Work directed through the office will transition to the Graduate School through the 2019-20 academic year.

The school will coordinate university-level policies related to graduate education. It will also work to increase the number and quality of graduate students, enhance professional development opportunities for graduate students, boost financial support for graduate education at Georgia State and collaborate with the university’s colleges and schools to strengthen interdisciplinary academic programs.
