Two Georgia State University Perimeter College students will receive one of the largest private scholarships in the country, the national Jack Kent Cooke (JKC) Foundation has announced.
Awa Cisse and Gideon Melvin have been awarded the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship to attend the four-year college or university of their choice.
The highly competitive scholarship, designed to help the nation’s top two-year college students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degrees at four-year institutions, provides each recipient up to $40,000 per year for up to three years.

Georgia State University has set records for the largest enrollment and largest, most diverse freshman class in its history.
Enrollments topped 54,000, with more than 5,200 freshmen entering the Atlanta Campus as the largest, most qualified and most diverse freshman class in the institution’s history. The previous records were set last year with more than 53,000 students and 4,600 freshmen.
More than 2,500 freshmen are starting at Georgia State’s Perimeter College campuses.

Students attending Georgia State University’s Perimeter College successfully transfer to four-year degree programs at dramatically higher rates than students at other two-year colleges around the nation, according to a new ranking by The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Perimeter College ranks 20th in the nation for student success among 838 two-year colleges in the ranking, which tracked students who entered college in 2015.
Nearly 83 percent of Perimeter College students who began classes were still enrolled, had transferred to other programs or completed their programs by 2018, according to the ranking.

Georgia State University is ranked the second most innovative university and third for its commitment to undergraduate teaching in the 2020 Best Colleges edition of U.S. News & World Report magazine.
It’s the second year in a row Georgia State is ranked the second most innovative institution. It’s also the second year in a row the university has been ranked in the top three among national universities for its “unusually strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.” Georgia State ranked first among public universities in the category.
The innovation and undergraduate teaching rankings are based on a survey of presidents, provosts and admissions deans at colleges and universities across the country.

Georgia State University will set a record for overall enrollment this fall semester, with more than 53,000 students enrolled and with the largest, most qualified and most diverse freshman class in the institution’s history.
Students will come from 49 states and more than 160 nations and territories, also a record. More than 4,600 freshmen will enter the university with a record average high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.53.
Of the freshman class, 36 percent is Black, and the university will set records for the number of Hispanic and Asian students enrolled as freshmen. More than 3,300 freshmen will start this fall at Georgia State’s Perimeter College campuses.
