The Office of the Provost has published its first progress report on an action plan that aims the university toward meeting the transformative recommendations by the Task Force for Racial Equality.
The report covers progress across 25 action steps through the end of calendar year 2020.
The work continues on the action plan, and a second progress report will be published by the Provost’s Office following the conclusion of the spring 2021 semester.

Wendy Hensel, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Georgia State, on Sept. 17 announced a new plan to put the recommendations made by the Task Force for Racial Equality into action.
“After a long summer of social and racial unrest, hard conversations and creative ideas, it is time for us to put our words into actions. Based on the dedicated work of the Task Force for Racial Equality, the Next Generation of Faculty Implementation Steering Committee and recommendations from faculty, staff and students, we have created an action plan with next steps to achieve a truly diverse, equitable and inclusive university environment.”

“We wrote to you last week condemning the senseless deaths of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, in addition to those of Breonna Taylor and countless other African Americans. This has put our country on alert that change must happen. Let’s be very clear that we at Georgia State stand against racism and violence. It is not sufficient, however, to simply condemn these things. As an institution of higher education, it is our responsibility to foster difficult conversations and identify solutions. To that end, we’re pleased to announce that the following distinguished members of our university community have agreed to serve on the Task Force for Racial Equality.”
